What Are the Different Types of E-Learning Platforms?
There are a myriad of online learning platforms to meet the needs of both teachers and students. Some platforms are free while others require a cost or subscription. Most e-learning platforms are compatible with modern browsers and mobile applications. They also make sure to keep their content up to date and accessible at all times.
These learning solutions allow tutors to reach a broad audience without having to limit the number of students they can instruct, or how often they get together. Furthermore, e-learning removes the requirement for students to travel to attend classes. This is particularly beneficial for students with disabilities who are able to learn from the comfort of their own home.
Many of these e-learning platforms provide tools for the one-on-1 communication between tutors and student. They can also offer small, self-paced exams to test the student’s understanding of the material. This allows tutors to assess the student’s progress and provide quick feedback.
Each platform has its own specific focus. Udemy for instance, offers courses covering a wide range of topics from photography to baking. On the other side, edX is focused on formal learning and partners with institutions and universities check that like IBM and Harvard to offer accrediting degrees and certificates. Other platforms include Skillshare which is a platform that focuses on innovative topics, MasterClass which is a subscription-based service that includes celebrity and VIP instructors, and Pluralsight which is more of a corporate learning solution. All of these platforms are accessible as desktop applications or mobile app and some even allow you to download the courses to view offline.
